Teeth

Whitening

Brushing and flossing are everyday ways to keep your teeth bright, white and healthy. Still, if you might feel like your smile is lacking some sparkle or is more yellow than it used to be, you’re not alone.

As a result of the approval of the dentist, the process of making the tooth color a few tones whiter with chemically applied methods is called tooth whitening. It is a treatment applied to lighten the color of teeth that have changed color for various reasons, a few tones specific to the person. It is the process of removing the discoloration that occurs in the structure of the teeth. Structural defects that occur during the formation of teeth, some antibiotics used as a child or in the womb, what we eat and drink, and the amount of fluoride in the water we drink can color our teeth. There are various methods of teeth whitening.

HOME TYPE TEETH WHITENING

Special whitening plaques are prepared for the patient by measuring inside the mouth. Certain amounts of whitening gel are applied into these prepared plaques. The mold, which contains a special gel placed in the mouth at night, stays in the mouth for 6-8 hours and in 1-4 weeks the tooth color is whitened by lightening a few shades.

OFFICE TYPE (CLINIC) TEETH WHITENING

It is performed in the clinical environment by the physician’s application of the whitening gel and the light source that activates this gel. Your gums are protected with a special barrier material. The whitening gel is applied to your teeth and the light source is activated. The process is completed after about 1 hour.

Advice for

Patients

Is it suitable for everyone?
It is inconvenient to apply it to people with gum disease, those with gingival recession, people with damaged teeth such as caries or fractures, children under the age of 18, and people who have sensitivity in their teeth due to tooth wear.

How long is the permanence of whitening?
Although the duration of keeping the whiteness of the teeth after the procedure varies from person to person, it is also related to which whitening method is applied. The duration of the whitened teeth also varies according to factors such as the person’s eating and drinking (colored foods), tea, coffee and cigarette consumption habits, and the degree of darkness of the tooth color before whitening.
